Planning the Perfect Wedding.....
We have a simple doctrine here at VDL – Creativity is King or in this case Queen!
We also know that we have one of, if not THE, most beautiful location in the entire Hinterland which provides the perfect backdrop for your day of days!
Large open outdoor spaces, shady nooks, manicured hedges and a view to die for all combine to provide the blank canvas. You provide the paint (your dream) and we apply the brush strokes to make the painting complete
.
The most important thing about styling an outdoor space is that you must let your creative juices go wild (and if you have a small mental blank, just let Donnamaree in and she will provide the fuel to get you going again.)
There is no doubt that vintage is the big thing at the moment so think broadly – an old laundry cart or wheelbarrow filled with, flowers, sweets, chocolate or champagne on ice, an easel and blackboard or old window for your table plan, quaintly rustic painted signs to direct your guests, candles, lanterns and torches for the romantic touch and milk urns, bottles, vintage bicycles and cane baskets full of flowers are all simple touches which go a long way to creating a theme.

Whatever your vision for the decor, you can be sure we will help you attain it. If you prefer we can do the entire set-up but we recommend, and most couples agree, that this part of the process is a labour of love, the part which gives you true ownership of your day, the part that stamps your day as your day and therefore the best wedding ever! Bear in mind though that you have to allow time for set up, so planning is vital to achieve a successful outcome. This is where we suggest you call on Donnamaree talents. Once she has your vision in mind she will plan the setup and delegate the tasks to ensure a seamless process full of fun and excitement on the morning of your wedding.
Table settings and centre pieces
Whilst the current trend to large centerpieces looks great, it can also be very impractical so we suggest you aim for a stylish look without clutter or overcrowding. Overlay your crisp white linen with rustic hessian or burlap table runners and keep your floral centerpieces low so as not to interfere in cross table chatter.
Never underestimate the simple elegance that the essentials (quality wine, champagne, water glasses, crockery and cutlery) can bring to your table. Keep your place names and menu small and discreet and unless your bonbonnieres are small, create a station elsewhere for your guests to collect them. A genuinely classy reception should offer a simple but beautiful backdrop to talking and dining.
Entertainment
This is not all about the DJ or a band.
Consider croquet, boules or other outdoor games and locate them near to where your canapés are to be served. Have a cellist, solo guitarist or even some Irish musos add some colour and fun to the garden party. Again this is an area where you should get really creative as the right entertainment mix will ensure that you throw a wedding your guests will never forget. Don’t underestimate your own entertainment talents either! There is nothing more memorable than a classy and well-practiced first dance or really shake off the shackles and do a duet of your favourite love song! Maybe get a dance instructor to teach your guests some moves to classic tunes. Guests will remember all these stylish features and touches, so spend your time and money on pure enjoyment and you’ll automatically create that ‘wow’ factor.
Brilliant entrees and mains
Work closely with our resident Chef and create the menu you have dreamed of and don’t forget staffing. It is vitally important that we have sufficient staff on hand all night to help with any queries, provide drink service, clear plates, glasses and spillages, and to keep your tables and overall look as pristine and stylish as it was at the start of the evening.
Afters
Guests love desserts so give them lots of options. Make use of your own spectacular wedding cake but add petit fours, cup-cakes or even delicious and simple sponge with jam and cream. As with all things display is paramount and we will work with you to do just that and we will ensure that a member of staff is on hand to serve and keep the table looking spectacular.
Finally, consider a cheese station – not only practical but incredibly popular with guests.
Delicious desserts and cheeses will finish the night in utterly decadent style!
Pop on over to the MMWP site and check the latest blog from VDL on Garden and Marquee Weddings.
Finally we are super proud of our Chefs and catering staff who continue to receive rave reviews for the quality and value they provide. Our sample menus are just that - samples as an idea for you to begin. Create your own menu, do a taste test with our great Chefs and we guarantee you will be suitably impressed.
