How to select your wedding cake

I often get calls from brides saying, I want to order a wedding cake but I'm not sure where to start.
Firstly decide how you are going to serve the wedding cake,
- If using the cake for dessert you will need a larger serving size for your guests, many choices now of dessert style cake flavours, can be traditional sugar iced or decorated with chocolate.
Can use tiered cakes, individual square cakes, cup cakes dessert style with chocolate icing. - If you already have dessert as part of your package at your reception venue, you can serve the cake after the meal with coffee and this is termed as coffee serves, a smaller petit four size slice, normally cut up and placed on platters for guest to help themselves. Can use tiered cakes, cup cakes,
- Use the cake for guests to take home, either a small slice of cake, or cup cakes are also great for this,some raly nice small boxes are available for both options.
Do you want to keep the top tier of your wedding cake?
It was traditional to keep the top tier of your wedding cake for the christening of your first child or for your first anniversary. Either can still apply today, another alternative which i have found really popular is to use the top tier of the wedding cake for a bbq or afternoon tea the day after the wedding, to catch up with freinds and relatives form interstate overseas.
Otherwise some bride and grooms particulary if they are honeymooning on the Sunshine Coast just keep it for themselves in their apartment/room and have a slice each day usually choosing a different cake flavour that they love.
Choose your cake design
Firstly think about your theme of the wedding, do you want a traditional design, do you want something more modern maybe in white chocolate as apposed to traditional sugar icing.
Do you like bright and bold or prefer more subtle whites and Ivory.
Your cake can be matched to your colour schemes and cake flowers ect.

All the cake designs can be changed around to suit colours and themes some aspects of several designs can be incoporated on one cake, your wedding cake designer will guide you.
Make a cake enquiry
Fill out an enquiry on the website or call your wedding cake supplier to get an idea of costs and explain what your would like.
Make a wedding cake appointment
At the wedding cake appointment you will get to taste test the wedding cake flavours which is very important, and also discuss designs and costings. Do you want to hire fancy cake stands ect.
Once a deposit is paid you are booked in for your cake.
Delivery
Your wedding cake will be delivered and set up at your wedding venue, and your cake maker can liase with your florist should you require fresh flowers on your cake.
Some wedding cakes can be picked up from the supplier, but i dont always reccomend this as the wedding cakes can be fragile.
