A timely warning, last week I was shocked!

A timely warning about looking for, and accepting the cheapest quote for a Celebrant.
Last week, I was shocked with a comment made, by a couple who attended a wedding I was officiating. They approached me to apologise, they said that they were so sorry not to have booked me for their wedding. Telling me that they looked around at many Celebrants, for the cheapest quote possible, as they thought there could not be any difference in what a Celebrant does. As they perceived it to be, someone doing the paperwork, and asking them to repeat certain words, at the wedding.
They chose the cheapest, and now remember their wedding day for the worst of reasons. The Celebrant, in their words, was Cold, Non Emotional, Dictatorial and lacking in People Skills and Public Speaking. I asked their names and where and when was their wedding, as I could not remember interviewing them. They told me, and I was none the wiser. As they did not book an obligation free interview with me, believing my quote to be higher than other quotes they received.
True story, the young women had tears as she spoke with me. I also held back tears, as inside I felt I had somehow let this couple down, not knowing how I could have got them to at least take me up on that non obligatory interview.
They left me with a great comment, stating that the wedding I had just officiated, was the most beautiful, real, wedding, that they has ever attended. And that they would like some of my business cards, so as to recommend my services to as many people they know.
To couples reading this, please, by all means gather quotes, but go see the providers themselves. Whether the Celebrant, Hair Dresser, Make-Up Artist, Florist, Photographer or whoever. Find out why they charge, what they charge. At the end of the day, you will find that the little extra you pay for that higher fee, works out a lot cheaper than the cheaper quote gave you, in quality, product, service and end result.
